Moroccanoil Treatment Original vs Light

Heat styling, swimming in chlorine, UV exposure, brushing, tying and untying. Our hair goes through turmoil on the daily, which can make it difficult to manage and keep healthy. If you’re feeling sorry for your hair like we are, then it may be time to show it some much needed TLC. There are a multitude of hair treatments out there, however we forever have a soft spot for the Moroccanoil Treatment, but did you know there are two versions? You can pick from the Moroccanoil Treatment Original and the Moroccanoil Treatment Light - but what’s the difference? And which one should you use?

Which Moroccanoil Treatment Do You Need?

Moroccanoil Treatment Original

Let’s start with the OG and take it back to where it all began. The Moroccanoil Treatment Original was the first child of Moroccanoil, pioneering a worldwide move to bring argan oil into beauty and hair care products. Stemming from argan trees found in semi-desert areas of the Mediterranean, argan oil is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, omega-3 oils and vitamins that are important for your hair. Having grown in such harsh, dry conditions, argan oil is also known for its UV protection properties.

With this in mind, the Moroccanoil Original Treatment was born. A versatile, nourishing and residue-free formula designed to repair and transform hair, the Moroccanoil Treatment Original will tame flyaways, condition split ends and smooth hair for an added boost of shine. Additionally this conditioning treatment aids in detangling hair, improves manageability and significantly speeds up blow-drying time.

Being a dense formula, the Moroccanoil Treatment Original is recommended for thick, coarse hair that is dry, curly and unmanageable. However, before all our fine haired gals and guys tune out of this blog post, let’s talk about the Moroccanoil Treatment Light.

Moroccanoil Treatment Light

The Moroccanoil Treatment Light offers all the same benefits as the Original, however is better suited for people with fine and light-coloured hair (bleached and grey hair). It’s basically the same formula, with all the same ingredients, only in a lighter form, texture and colour.

This isn’t to say that people with thick, naturally light hair can’t use the Original treatment - in fact we would recommend choosing a formula based on the thickness of your hair over your natural colour. The Moroccanoil Treatment Light is simply lighter making it more manageable in fine and thin hair. In terms of colour if you have chemically lightened hair, then the Light treatment is recommended over the Original for protecting your hair colour.

Quick Guide:

Original

  • Use if you have thick, coarse, curly hair.
  • Also good if you’re naturally light, but still have lots of hair.

Light

  • Use if you have fine, thin, brittle hair.
  • Also recommended for anyone with bleached hair, platinum blonde and gray hair.

How to use the Moroccanoil Treatment: Original & Light

The beauty of these incredible hair treatments is that they don’t only save your hair, but they can be used in a host of ways making application easy and flexible.

1. Clean, towel dried hair

Use the Moroccanoil Treatment Original or Light on clean towel dried hair for a touch of nourishment after your wash. This will also help to speed up drying time. Simply apply 1-2 pumps of the treatment to clean towel dried hair from mid-lengths to the ends. With your fingers work the product through your hair, ensuring it is distributed evenly. Then blow dry or let dry naturally.

2. Dry styled hair

The Moroccanoil Treatment can also be used in dry hair to boost shine and control frizz. Pump a few small drops into your hands and apply on dry hair from mid length to ends. Work the product through your hair with focus on split ends and smoothing out areas of frizz.

3. Second day hair

Use the Moroccanoil Treatment Original or Light in second day hair to tame flyaways and condition split ends. Simply apply one pump into the palm of your hands and distribute evenly working from mid-lengths to ends. You can also use the product more strategically, by applying to problem areas in your dry hair to tame flyaways and frizz.

4. Improve your treatment mask

Another convenient way to use both the Original and Light Treatments is to combine them with your Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask. Simply mix a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment to your hair mask for added nourishment and apply the mask as usual. This will give your hair a deeper and more intense hydration boost.

5. Before shampooing

For more intense repair and nourishment, use the Original or Light treatments before getting in the shower to wash your hair. Apply 1-2 pumps of the treatment to your hair and massage throughout. Leave this to sit for about 10-15 minutes before shampooing, then wash as usual.

6. Before swimming

As we mentioned, the argan oil infused Moroccanoil Treatment Original and Light are ideal for protecting hair from harsh drying conditions. For example, chlorinated water and UV rays. Before going to the beach or jumping in a pool, apply 1-2 pumps throughout the hair and work through to the ends. This will work to protect your hair from such harsh conditions.
