Whether you’re regretting an impulsive iso hair cut or have just always wanted long locks - this is your guide on how to grow out your hair. Long, mermaid-like hair is perhaps one of the most desired hair goals, and yet to this day there is no miracle treatment for getting long hair naturally. It is a process that requires persistence and patience (a lot of patience), but with the right changes in your daily hair care routine, growing your hair is possible.
Now as we mentioned, there is no magical method for getting glorious butt-length hair overnight. In fact, you won’t even be getting long hair in a matter of days - we are talking months and months of persistence (can you see why you need a lot of patience?). Hair typically grows just over a centimeter per month on its own, however there are ways to speed up this process… just please don’t take the words “speed up” too literally. We are still talking months, but perhaps a few less months than average 🤷♀️

How to grow out your hair: 6 tips
1. Strength is key
Before building a house, we must first lay a strong foundation. This is the same for your hair. Strong, healthy hair is essentially the foundation we need for our locks to grow longer. Without it, hair becomes weak, brittle and unable to thrive!
There are a number of ways to help hair become stronger and healthier, so if you want to know how to grow out your hair this is what you need to focus on first.
Kerastase Resistance Extentioniste
The first step in strengthening your hair is to consider the shampoo and conditioner you’re using. If you haven’t heard of the Kerastase Resistance Extentioniste range already, then let us introduce you.
The Kerastase Resistance Extentioniste collection was designed under the principle of strengthening hair from its roots. The formulas work to rebuild weak and damaged hair, restoring the internal fibres and preventing hair breakage from the inside out. This puts your hair in an ideal condition to then grow.
There are 4 steps to the Kerastase Resistance Extentioniste routine, each an important part of how to grow out your hair.
1. Length Strengthening Shampoo
Apply a 10 cent coin amount of the shampoo to wet hair and massage through the lengths and ends thoroughly. We do recommend only washing your hair 2-3 times a week. This allows your natural oils to penetrate your hair, hydrate and repair on its own.
2. Length Strengthening Conditioner
After rinsing out the shampoo, apply another 10 cent coin amount of the conditioner to your hair and distribute evenly throughout your lengths and ends. Leave for about 2-3 minutes to allow the conditioner to do its thang, then rinse.
Use this deep conditioning hair mask once or twice a week to help boost your hair strength. Apply a small amount onto wet hair, focusing on the lengths and ends again. Leave for 5-10 minutes, then rinse out. Not only does this mask help prevent breakage, but it also leaves hair nice and shiny too.
4. Length Strengthening Scalp Serum
Using this serum is arguably the step that will make all the difference. It is recommended that you use this one at least 3 times a week. Simply distribute 2-4 pipettes directly at the roots and scalp of your head, and proceed to massage the serum in with your fingers and spread through with a wide tooth comb.
2. Feed your hair from within
Now that we have your hair care routine down pat, let's talk about your diet. Yas you read that right - the food you eat has a significant impact on the health and strength of your hair. So when discussing how to grow out your hair, we can’t just rely on products. Promoting hair growth also involves nourishing your hair from within.
A high protein diet has huge benefits for strengthening your locks and helping hair grow faster. This may involve eating more foods such as fish, beans, nuts and whole grains. Additionally, increasing your intake of vitamins A, C and E, minerals such as iron and zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids also contribute to healthier, stronger hair.
AÉDE supplements
Ensuring that you get the right amount of vitamins, minerals and fatty acids in your diet every day can be hard to track, we get that. So to make things easier for everyone, let’s talk about AÉDE Hair Activist.
This daily hair supplement is designed to support the natural growth of healthy hair, boost collagen production and reduce everyday damage. 3. Get regular trims
We know this sounds strange, but if you seriously want your hair to grow then regular trims will help. By trimming your hair regularly you are removing the split ends that cause hair to break. This keeps hair in a healthier condition, not to mention it will look and feel smoother and shinier!
4. Resist the urge to colour
As exciting as a new hair colour is, if length is your end goal then you must resist! Colouring your hair with chemicals such as bleach will be the difference between reaching your longest possible length and not. The chemicals in colouring cause damage to hair cuticles, which results in more breakage, more split ends and unhealthy hair :(
5. Always use heat protection
Ideally, we would say stop heat styling all together, but we all know how uncooperative hair can be sometimes. And we have events to get to…well we will once iso is over. Anyway, we know heat damages hair, so when heat styling always, ALWAYS use a heat protectant. This helps prevent the risk of damage and keeps your hair in a healthier condition. Additionally, and where possible, turn down the temperature on your hot tools - it might take a little longer but it is kinder to your hair follicles that way.
6. Sleep on a silk pillowcase
Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is not only for the extra, it also helps prevent breakage and keep hair strong and healthy! We’ve talked about the benefits of a silk pillowcase before so you can read all about the benefits here.
So, now you have the info on how to grow out your hair it's time to get to work! It's gonna be a long road that's for sure, but the results are worth it.
